Friday January Sixteenth

Troop 26 met up at IHM Church for our trip to Washington D.C. We did not bring our trailer because we were staying in a hotel. We left at about 6:00 pm, so we could make it to D.C. at around midnight. We could see the Capital Building and the Washington Monument from Crystal City where we were stayingWe arrived at the Hotel at 12:30 am. We unloaded the cars and went up stairs to the lobby. Our senior patrol leader handed out the room keys. We all went to our rooms and went to bed. We needed it for our long day ahead.

Saturday January Seventeenth

Everyone woke up around 6:45 am. We ate breakfast at the hotel. Then we walked a block down to the metro station. For many the metro was a first. We put money into the machine which gave us metro tickets. After everyone got a metro ticket we walked through the machine that takes your ticket then spits it out for you to use it again. We went down the escalator and waited for our tram. We got on the tram and rode for about ten minutes. We got off and walked to the Library of Congress. We went inside the museum part but could only see into the real library.   We learned that you had to be an adult to enter the Library of Congress.  Next we went to the Supreme Court Building, then we visited the Air and Space museum. We saw Leonardo da Vinchi’s Flying machine, the first U.S. rocket and Amelia Earhart’s plane,  After The Air and Space Museum we ate lunch at food trucks. It had some of the best food I had ever had.   We then headed to the capital to take a tour. We watched a movie about the history of the capitalthen had our tour. After the tour we went to the Crime & Punishment Museum. It had the history of crime and punishment from as early as the middle ages. After we headed to the Hard Rock Café. We headed back to the hotel after we finished eating. We took the tram back to the hotel.

Sunday January Eighteenth

Now normally we would leave on a Sunday but because it is  Martin Luther King Jr Weekend we have Monday off of school. That means we get to stay longer. When we woke up it was raining so that meant we had to wear our rain gear. We took the tram to the area around the Washington Monument. We got to go up in the monument. Next we went to the Natural History Museum. We went to the White House for a group picture. Next we went to the WW2 Memorial. Then to the Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial. Then to finish out the day we went to the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial. We walked to the tram station and rode back to hotel.

Monday January Nineteenth

We woke up, packed our bags, checked out, and got in the cars. Before we left we went to Arlington National Cemetery and saw the changing of the guards and four boys in our troop changed out the wreath. After we went to see The Eternal Flame for President Kennedy. Then we went to The second Air and Space Museum and saw The Discovery the last rocket from America to go to space. There were four new scouts on this trip.On Friday December 12th we split our backpacking equipment up to even out the load and then we left for Grayson highlands. We arrived at 10:00 at night. The temperature was below freezing. We put our packs on and hiked in a mile to our site. We then set up camp in the dark. On Saturday we all woke and ate our own food that we cooked our selves. The scouts who have gone on backpacking trips packed up their tents and left around 8:30 a.m. The younger scouts went on a five mile day hike to the top of Mount Rogers the tallest peak in Virginia. The older scouts hiked 10 miles and camped somewhere different from the younger scouts. There were many wild horses on the trail. The Awesome Hanging Rock Trip!

This weekend our troop was going on another exciting camping trip at Hanging Rock State Park. We had 4 new scouts from Webelos 2 pack 16 that also attended. Twenty two scouts attended the campout. On Friday we drove to Hanging Rock, it was cold the moment we stepped out of our cars. We unloaded the trailer we went to our campsites in the dark. Everyone was freezing as we set up our tents. Soon it was morning and it got down to 23 degrees which made a really cold Saturday morning. We started to build a fire it was hard however we soon got it started so everyone could warm up. After lunch we did some activities that included knots, hiking, fire building, and a maze puzzle. This was followed up by an activities challenges that took until nightfall. Everyone gave it their all with team Alpha wining the activities challenge to earn a great dessert later that night. When we were done we ate dinner which was followed by some late night KP and some final huddling by the fire before snuggling into our sleeping bags. Sunday morning it was a little warmer 34 degrees which allowed us to quickly pack up so we could hike back up to Window Falls. When we finished Sunday service on top of the mountain and we hiked back to our cars to finally make our way home. Soon we arrived home and even though it was cold we will remember the trip to hanging rock as an awesome experience for all scouts.

Then a few scouts built a gateway using lashings and bamboo. We woke up at 6:00 and made breakfast. The rest of the day we did challenges. One of the last challenges was the Battle at Black Gate.
